Amember Conversion BoosterOne of the many tools available that I absolutely love is Amember from CGI-Central. Amember not only manages my membership sites, it also handles digital product sales, delivery, and protection.

For instance, it protects download pages, offers backend sales and automation, allows protection of “external” folders and files, and it even comes with a built-in autoresponder. (And that’s just a partial list.)

I use Amember with WordPress for my membership sites, such as, for example, the all-new Success Chef University, among many others.

But Amember does have its flaws…

Specifically, before Amember sends the prospect to the payment processing form, it asks you to fill out an account setup form to create an account. That account, until the order is finalized, is considered “pending” or “incomplete.”

Luckily, if a person fails to complete their order, Amember has a built-in autoresponder sequence, which emails the pending account holders asking them to return to the order form to complete their order.

Here’s the problem.

What if the email is wrong? Or what if the follow-up emails get tagged as spam? Or what if the copy in those emails are hard to understand? Or, worse yet, what if there’s an error in ordering the product AFTER they signed up?

Trying to email pending account holders, and get them to return and complete their purchases, would be wasted. These emails would never reach their destinations.

Aside from some emails being undelivered, if the order process has an error after they created an account, then asking them to return to complete their order with a buggy order process would be irrelevant.

Moreover, when users encounter snags in an online purchase, the majority bail out silently, in frustration, without contacting the merchant to resolve them.

Enter Marty Foley’s new Amember Conversion Booster.

(I love this tool! You’ll soon realize why.)

Marty Foley is a friend of mine, and we’ve known each other for many years. But what we have in common is that Marty is another one of those “mad scientists” online. Like me, he loves to test.

He tests everything. In fact, his script, Split-Test Gold, was one of the first ever split-testing scripts on the Internet. (Yes, he’s been around the block a few times.)

A few weeks ago, Marty approached me personally while in the early stages of testing his new Amember Conversion Booster and asked me to be a beta-tester.

I agreed.

It’s a simple Amember plugin — upload and activate, and you’re done! Simple? Yes. But the benefits of this tiny tool are incredible.

This simple but powerful plugin can…

  • Increase Amember conversion rates, sales, and value per visitor
  • Improve Amember usability and customer satisfaction
  • Help you get maximum value from the traffic you get now
  • And much more.

Once I uploaded the plugin, I saw immediate results.

For instance, it emails you the moment there’s an incomplete order or order error, with full details allowing you to call the customer and complete the order.

We already saved a few orders as a result. Not much, mind you, but enough to justify using this little plugin. And since it’s a plugin, it works outside Amember, so it doesn’t interfere with your ordering process or cause any hiccups. It’s totally seamless.

But the more important thing is, it allows us to gather feedback from lost or incomplete sales, which in turn allows us to either complete orders or make alternate offers.

In fact, on Amember’s signup page (before the customer is redirected to the order processor), account details include mailing addresses and/or phone numbers.

And that’s the key!

Sure, when there’s an incomplete order or an order error, this little plugin emails the admin all the account details, what error(s) occurred if any, and where it happened.

But it also includes everything we need to call the prospect, complete the transaction, make alternate offers, or gather priceless feedback.

Plus, with Marty’s Amember Conversion Booster, we can set it up so that it CC’s the incomplete order details to staff who will call the customer up to finalize their orders.

More importantly, even if they don’t complete their orders, we can easily find out why the customer did not buy, or what’s confusing them about the product, the offer, the copy, or the ordering process.

This alone is worth a ton of money!

Your complainers are your biggest assets, because they are telling you, exactly, what’s wrong, what to fix, and how to sell them. That is, if they complain in the first place.

(Again, many people leave your order form in frustration, without making a single peep.)

By the way, another benefit I (and Marty) didn’t expect is that, once I uploaded the plugin to one of my Amember sites, I discovered I was getting hack attempts.

What’s cool is that Marty’s plugin includes the IP address of the prospect — or in this case, the hacker — so that appropriate action can be taken.

(And Marty has also told me that he’s implementing a bunch of new, extra features, too.)

I truly recommend this tool. If you use Amember (and you should if you run membership sites, and Amember is not just for membership sites, too), you definitely need Amember Conversion Booster.

  • Hi Michel, from Western Australia,

ACB sounds like a pretty cool plugin actually. One of those things I will definitely get my hands on if/when I use amember.

It's a sad statement of our times that people can mess up a simple order form with the wrong email address (for example)... It makes me wonder whether they also have difficulty spelling their own name at times... LOL

But seriously, typos catch even the best of us out when we're (perhaps) in a hurry, or just not paying full attention to what we've typed. And, as for the ever-ongoing problem of getting your legit emails caught in spam filters!!!!!!! Perhaps the less said right here & now, the better... ;)

And, being able to capture their phone number & ring them is very powerful. It would really make you look good to the client if they made a genuine mistake & actually got a call from a REAL person, offering to help them.

Great way to boost credibility with them.

Over the years, I've brought plenty of stuff online and I've NEVER received a phone call to follow-up, so obviously it's extremely uncommon...

Heck, even if they are successful at signing up (no errors, etc), it's probably worth giving them a bell anyway, and just say thanks for purchasing, etc.

Anyway, thanks for letting me know about this tool Michel - I'll be sure to keep it in mind for future use.

  • Hi Michel,

Do you know if the plugin works with the new 3.1.0 version of Amember?

It is cool to see new plugins coming out for this great tool!

  • I am very excited to implement amember as I ramp up for a membership site. It's always useful to read about great plug ins.
    Much appreciated.
  • thanks, I am gonna give it a try.
  • Jon
Thanks Michel, that looks very useful.

I was wondering, have you, or any readers, found a plugin (or other way) to integrate Wordpress membership/registration (free or paid) with AWeber sign-up? So that the user just fills in one form and is seamlessly registered in WP and AWeber?

    Thanks again, Jon
  • @Jon - Amember also sells WordPress and Aweber plugins that intergrate them all. I just had them customize a GetResponse plugin for me, which may be made available like the others (not sure, though).

Let me also add : Is anyone here with the same issues that I once had – I could not figure out how to pull people to view my webpage, blogs, etc. You are told that you need to choose the right words for your headline. For instance, like Google Adwords, you need to have the most powerful combination of words you can create. It's basically all about choosing the best combination of words to achieve the greatest results.
If you are anything like me, you ask yourself.. " How do I do this?" Now there is a new tool available called Glyphius that can really help you. Glyphius is a very easy tool to use. You simply type a headline into the text field and click on the Score button. Instantly Glyphius runs its algorithms and comes back with a score. Your headline is now displayed at the top of the screen.
Now you begin to tweak it, changing words and phrases. Just keep typing and checking your score. Sooner or later you will see some BIG jumps in your overall score, and that's when it's time to quit.
I know it probably sounds complicated, but if I can do it – anyone can! It has been the easiest software that I have ever used! I hope this helps you all out, as it has for me.
    Have a great day!
  • Thank you for submission you article to the6th Edition of the "Bringing more traffic to your blog" Blog Carnival. The edition was published today: http://blogging4good.blogspot.com/2008/07/bring...

    Have a good weekend!
  • it's really good to hear of such a positive plugin and of amember too. I've been using various membership scripts over the last year or so with no particular joy! They work but my goodness it's a slog and I keep wondering about using amember in combination with Wordpress. WP is the only CMS I've used that's workable and even fun.

And to have a plugin that raises conversion...thank you!
