But I also believe in edu­ca­tion because the more you edu­cate peo­ple the more you will change the world rather than forc­ing it to change. So, if you’re going to help out some­body in their own lives you need edu­ca­tion. If you’re going to help out peo­ple to real­ize maybe they are bad peo­ple and they’ve done hurt to oth­ers edu­ca­tion is the answer.

It’s not pros­e­ly­tiz­ing. It’s not try­ing to argue with them. It’s just teach­ing them and teach­ing them until they’re ready to be taught and they’re ready to change. I’ve met a lot of peo­ple who change their lives because they’ve learned and they’ve decided to learn and that’s the key. Edu­ca­tion is prob­a­bly the most pro­found answer I can give to that ques­tion. It’s just education.

What is a prob­lem? There’s a say­ing, which says that obsta­cles are what hap­pens when you take your eyes off your goals. I don’t agree because prob­lems can occur even when you are focus­ing on your goals. How­ever, I would cer­tainly agree that obsta­cles are what hap­pens when you take your eyes off your pri­or­i­ties. In fact, to the con­gru­ent per­son, prob­lems are not prob­lems but con­sid­ered as grow­ing pains.

You are always grow­ing no mat­ter what. Change is, in essence, the result of grow­ing. A “Help Wanted” ad caught my eye when it said: “We embrace change by hir­ing peo­ple who cre­ate it.” We do cre­ate our own changes. We are always grow­ing, always evolv­ing, always chang­ing. There­fore, since we can not stop that growth, the key to liv­ing a ful­fill­ing life is to choose how to grow and to grow in the right direction.

Again, the inner you is your con­science while your con­nec­tion to it is your con­scious­ness. While you can act in accor­dance with or in oppo­si­tion to your con­science, you can’t betray your con­science for it is the wis­dom of the high­est that’s within. There­fore, if your goals ignore your con­science, they will uncon­sciously bring unnec­es­sary tur­moil in your life. But if your goals fol­low your con­science, you are then con­sciously purposeful.

If you’re like most peo­ple, you have cer­tain needs and aspi­ra­tions at this moment. You prob­a­bly want to reach higher goals, get pro­moted, make more money, spend more time with your fam­ily, find a bet­ter job, lose 10 pounds or so, take that vaca­tion in the Caribbean, start a busi­ness, etc. In other words, you want to improve your qual­ity of life right now and not at some point in the future.

Hold­ing the impres­sion that the sup­ply of wealth is lim­ited, they will insist that social and gov­ern­men­tal insti­tu­tions must be changed before even any con­sid­er­able num­ber of peo­ple can acquire a competence.

But this is not true.

It is true that exist­ing gov­ern­ments keep the masses in poverty, but this is because the masses do not think and act in the cer­tain way.

If the masses begin to move for­ward as sug­gested in this book, nei­ther gov­ern­ments nor indus­trial sys­tems can check them; all sys­tems must be mod­i­fied to accom­mo­date the for­ward movement.

Wallace WattlesSuc­cess, in any par­tic­u­lar busi­ness, depends for one thing upon your pos­sess­ing, in a well-​​developed state, the fac­ul­ties required in that business.

With­out good musi­cal fac­ulty no one can suc­ceed as a teacher of music. With­out well-​​developed mechan­i­cal fac­ul­ties no one can achieve great suc­cess in any of the mechan­i­cal trades. With­out tact and the com­mer­cial fac­ul­ties no one can suc­ceed in mer­can­tile pur­suits. But to pos­sess in a well-​​developed state the fac­ul­ties required in your par­tic­u­lar voca­tion does not insure get­ting rich. There are musi­cians who have remark­able tal­ent, and who yet remain poor. There are black­smiths, car­pen­ters, and so on who have excel­lent mechan­i­cal abil­ity, but who do not get rich. And there are mer­chants with good fac­ul­ties for deal­ing with peo­ple who nev­er­the­less fail.

Three Simple Wishes For 2007

New Year's ResolutionsAs the hol­i­days are fast approach­ing, I took some time this week to reflect on all the things for which I’m grate­ful this year. And there are many.

From mar­ry­ing my Soul Mate and deal­ing with breast can­cer, to tak­ing my busi­nesses to a new level and recon­nect­ing with peo­ple I’ve missed ter­ri­bly, 2006 was an amaz­ing and event-​​filled year.

I’ve grown a lot this year. And I’ve been blessed to have you, dear reader, to remind me of what’s truly impor­tant any time of the year. But above all, I’ve learned a lot this year, too.
