How to Capture and Captivate Attention

direct mailOne morning, you go into your mailbox and discover there’s an envelope waiting for you from an unknown source. You bring the package into your living room, tear open the envelope, pull out what’s inside, put on your reading glasses, unfold the letter, and begin to read the contents.

After completing all of these steps, you then quickly glance at the letter to decide if the letter is worth reading.

If not, you throw it in the garbage.

But if the envelope looks like junk mail, there’s copy on the envelope and it screams “hype,” or the printed address label just says “dear occupant” as the addressee, chances are you won’t even think about opening it and you’ll just throw it away.

However, let’s say the envelope works, curiosity takes over, and the letter does get opened at this point. Once unfolded, though, if it looks like some kind of sales pitch at first glance, not even a single word will likely be read. So into the round file it goes!

Your website is the envelope. What does it say about you?

How I Grow My Blog Organically Using These 5 Tips

istock 000007210772xsmall 150x150 How I Grow My Blog Organically Using These 5 TipsA lot of people ask me what’s my blogging strategy. They want to know, for instance, how I post articles, build a list, and drive traffic to my blog. More important, they want to know how I make money with it. Those are good questions.

The short answer, of course, is to keep offering great content. Fresh content. Content you find valuable. Content you believe may be of interest or value to your readers.

But here’s something you might find surprising…

I don’t use my blog as a business model like some A-list bloggers out there. Making money is purely a byproduct. Sure, I do have ads on it, interspersed throughout, linking either to my products or to products I’m an affiliate of. But they are not focal points.

Granted, those ads do help to pay the bills, keep my blog alive, and incentivize me to continue posting what I hope is valuable content for my readers.

But some people wonder how I drive traffic to this blog and build my list of subscribers. After all, I don’t advertise it at all with any paid advertising — other than in my signature file on some forum posts, or on my social network profiles like Twitter and Facebook.

I’ve revealed part of my strategy in some courses, such as Success Chef University, which is our flagship training product. I’ve also revealed it in a few interviews I gave here and there. I’ve also revealed a handful of them on this blog in the past.

However, there are very specific things I do to help me grow this blog.

Are Bottlenecks Clogging Your Sales?

iStock 000004247622XSmall 150x150 Are Bottlenecks Clogging Your Sales? When a sales page is not performing or if it’s not performing up to your expectations, the worst thing you can do is… nothing.

By taking action and making changes, you can strengthen your copy quickly and improve your sales conversions. In most cases, there are relatively simple steps you can take to alter the copy to improve your results immediately.

The key to this process is testing to boost your outcome.

The sad truth is, the vast majority of marketers don’t test. But if you are testing or about to, then congratulations. Because you’re miles ahead of most people in this industry.

However, when most people start testing, they immediately think of something they can add or change. Or they’re confused as to what to test, particularly what to test first.

In my experience, I’ve found that the best and most efficient element to test is to actually first remove the things that are stopping people from ordering. In other words…

How to Improve Your Email Open Rates

Email marketing subject linesWith spam incessantly inundating our inboxes and people’s attention spans constantly shrinking, some have claimed that email marketing is on the way out.

I say “nonsense.”

In fact, it’s because of those very reasons that email marketing is now stronger than ever before. I personally know of some marketers who have made literally millions of dollars with email marketing alone in recent weeks.

I’m talking about legitimate, law-compliant, optin email.

Remember, the most common use of the Internet is still email — not instant messenging, social networking, or browsing websites. It’s often the very first thing people do when they log onto the web.

Granted, the biggest stumbling block is to increase your “open rate” (i.e., the percentage of people who actually open your emails). And to do so you first need to get your emails delivered and overcome overzealous spam filters.

But once they do reach your readers’ inboxes, the most important step in getting your messages through to your audience is with good copy. And like a good headline in sales copy, it all starts with the subject line.

Thou Shall Speak Softly but Carry a Big Stick

The 10 Commandments of Power PositioningThe following is probably the greatest commandment in “Power Positioning.”

Now that we’ve talked about lead generation advertising, the next step is where to advertise. And the trick to having as many pre-qualified prospects come forward is to have your ad noticed and read by such a specific group of people as much, as often, and as effectively as possible. General publications won’t do that and they cost a lot of money… That’s cost-per-lead money.

Specialized publications, on the other hand, have the distinction of appealing to a specific audience and thus increase the chances of it being noticed as well as read. Why? If one newspaper has a readership of 100,000 but only 25,000 fits into your demographics, where another has only 40,000 readers but all of which fits into your demographics (because the publication is specialized), which one do you think will give you the greatest response?
