Brains For Boobs?

michelfortinbrain 150x150 Brains For Boobs?Need help with your sales copy or marketing strategy? About to launch a product or promotion, but unsure if it will work? Or simply wish you could pick my brains for an hour?

(And want to pitch in for a great cause at the same time?)

Well, for a limited time, you can.

As a freelance copywriter and consultant for the better part of 20 years, I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to critique, review, consult, and coach thousands of people and projects.

At first, I did it because it was my livelihood. But today, my wife and I own several, profitable businesses, and so I outsource much of it to our personally trained staff.

For this reason, I don’t do hourly consults anymore. When I do coaching or consulting, I give priority to my members and rarely take on new clients. If I happen to work with a new client, I do it mostly for fun. (But I also charge a minimum of $3,000 for it, too.)

Well, if you ever wanted to “rent my brains” for an hour, and for a fraction of that price on top of that, then here’s your chance. Plus, you’ll be helping an important cause.

One that’s particularly meaningful to me and my family.

Purging My Way to Freedom From Email Clutter

istock 000004817156xsmall 150x150 Purging My Way to Freedom From Email ClutterAfter the last, big, “mega-product launch,” and a barrage of me-too marketing emails from the usual suspects, I’ve decided enough is enough. And it’s about time.

I’ve done something I should have done a long time ago.

And I feel liberated.

I recommend you do the same.

That is, I unsubscribed from 90% of the newsletters I was receiving. I deleted fearlessly. Unsubscribed relentlessly. Purged ruthlessly. Without blinking or looking back.

If you think it’s not a lot, let me give you a backstory. When I was the editor of The Internet Marketing Chronicles newsletter over a decade ago (which has since been acquired by the late Corey Rudl), I subscribed to a lot of email newsletters.

Yes, lots. Like over-a-thousand lots.

I’m a speed-reader, so getting that many emails was never a big challenge. And before you conclude I was an email junkie, let me give you a few reasons in my defense.

For one, I wanted to be up on things. I wanted to stay abreast of new changes, new marketing strategies, new software tools, and so on. (I still do.)

Second, it gave me a lot of fodder while writing editorials for the then popular newsletter. I’m proud to have been instrumental in helping them grow their list from 45,000 to 160,000 subscribers, and remember that 160,000 back in ’98 was quite a feat!

And third, these emails served me well as they were also used for research purposes. As an up-and-coming copywriter writing a lot for the Internet marketing crowd at the time, I wanted to see what others were saying, promoting, doing, emailing, and writing.

But this weekend, after last week’s ubiquitous mega-launch promotional emails started cluttering up my inbox, it became the proverbial straw that broke this camel’s back.

Positive Productivity

Drop Your Goals“Do not measure your life by your goals but what you are actually doing to achieve them.“
– Peter Drucker

“The ultimate goal of life is death — the experience of life is where the value is, not the results we achieve.“
– Anonymous

When people refer to productiveness, they usually refer to “busy-ness.” Positive productivity, on the other hand, is the result of doing what’s important and will hinge greatly on how well you adhere to this process of alignment. Alignment can also help you to discover not only what you need to do but also provide you with shortcuts as well.

Contract Your Time to Expand Your Income

dayoff Contract Your Time to Expand Your IncomeAfter 12 long years of working seven days a week, I’ve made a decision. I’m taking tomorrow off.

Sounds strange? Well, I’ve had vacations. Many of them. And I’ve taken half-days off, here and there. Sometimes, I’ve even taken whole days off. But I would still check my email in the morning, or return to my computer at night.

Aside from my vacations, I’ve not taken an entire day off in over a decade. I mean, a full 24 hours without doing any work, including using the computer even if it’s to surf the web.

My wife and I are finally heeding to some very powerful advice about taking an extra day off to earn more money from Terry Dean, a person I admire and follow closely.

Productivity 2.0

Time is moneySome people have asked what Web 2.0 tools do I use. Now, that question is two-sided. One is, what tools do I use with my copy? And the answer is, “not many.” I do use a few, and I’m testing a lot more, too.

Other than video and graphics, such as using YouTube.com and Flickr.com, which are the most popular but not really important when you have your own dedicated server like I do, there are some tools to allow my websites to be a little more interactive.

(If you remember from my report, The Death of The Salesletter,” I talk about the rise in “samplification.” If there are any tools that I would prefer, other than video and audio, they would certainly be those that helped to give my readers more proof, and to make their buying experiences easier and more secure.)

I will blog about those once I get more statistics to share with you.

But the second part of that question is, when it comes to running my business, there are a few Web 2.0 tools and services that have helped my life quite tremendously. Here’s a list of some of them.
