As we’re get­ting ready to speak at the next Big Sem­i­nar, and share the stage with none other than Jay Abra­ham, my wife Sylvie and I have been work­ing furi­ously on our upcom­ing prod­uct, Suc­cess Chef, which we are launch­ing at Big.

But as busy as I am these days, and with the added stress of writ­ing copy, deal­ing with clients and rais­ing three teenagers, I some­times find myself dip­ping into a few books as a dis­trac­tion for some solace and qui­etude — and to give me some fresh ideas.

Last week, I bought four books, and devoured them in a sin­gle week!

Face­book is grow­ing by leaps and bounds. If you don’t know what Face­book is, it’s a social net­work­ing site much like MySpace, but with a lot more con­trol, flex­i­bil­ity, and ver­stil­ity. (Check out my pro­file.)

But after test­ing it for a while, I’ve con­cluded that it’s not a viable mar­ket­ing tool. At least, not for me. There are two rea­sons why using Web 2.0 social-​​driven sites to make money (or to drive tar­geted traf­fic) is not viable.

First, and more impor­tantly, it’s labor-​​intensive. It’s a full-​​time affair.

I don’t pre­tend to be a social mar­ket­ing expert by any stretch. And I’m sure that, if you are a social site junkie, you can find some pretty cre­ative ways for using them to gen­er­ate mas­sive amounts of traf­fic. Some already have.

But for me, my busi­ness, and my spe­cific tar­get mar­ket, and like many social net­work­ing sites out there, it’s a waste of time. So if you’re not pre­pared on work­ing it exten­sively and reli­giously, then I dis­c­om­mend it.

How­ever, noth­ing stops you from out­sourc­ing the leg­work, if you’re so inclined. But there’s another good rea­son why I don’t rec­om­mend it…

I’m back from Atlanta from attend­ing the Big Seminar.

I got to see my friends and some top mar­keters while there, includ­ing Jim Edwards, Mar­lon Sanders, Mike Woo-​​Ming, Brad Fal­lon, Jeff John­son, Ray Edwards, Eric Gra­ham, and more. (The pic­ture on the left is with Eric Gra­ham, one of my coach­ing stu­dents.)

The high­light of the week­end, aside from the great con­tent and the net­work­ing and shoulder-​​rubbing oppor­tu­ni­ties, was Sat­ur­day night. Dr. Scott Lewis, an Inter­net mar­keter as well, is a hyp­no­tist with a reg­u­lar show in Vegas. He gave a show on Sat­ur­day that was filled with surprises.

(My jaw still hurts from laugh­ing so much!)

Nev­er­the­less, I’m back in the office and now get­ting ready for a ton of events. May is shap­ing up to be quite a busy month, with webi­nars, tele­sem­i­nars, copy cri­tiques, and more.

Last month, I’ve risen from the ashes.

You see, in the past year, I’ve been through highs and lows. I’ve dealt with the best copy I’ve ever writ­ten — while deal­ing with (and fir­ing) a whole bunch of vam­pire clients. I’ve quit solic­it­ing for copy­writ­ing work and seen a remark­able improve­ment in my health and well-​​being — while deal­ing with my sister’s wors­en­ing health caused by liver can­cer, dia­betes and lupus.

And the coup de grace:

I’ve gone through a bit­ter sep­a­ra­tion and a painful divorce (which is still under­way) — while start­ing to date the most won­der­ful woman in the world. She is unques­tion­ably, undoubt­edly, indu­bitably, irrefutably my Soul Mate. My best friend. My pil­lar. My Angel sent from above. My One and Only.

And last month, I made it offi­cial “live” on stage.
