John Reese Is To Blame…
John Reese gave a fascinating talk in Los Angeles. His topic was how to create a profit network. A lightly different (and probably more marketing-related) version of Michael Campbell’s “Revenge of The Mininet.”
In essence, John talked about creating a series of specific, standalone websites for content only, based on categories. Search-engine-wise, it’s good for link pop, PR, rankings, etc. While I’m not too sure about that, the concept in and of itself makes total sense to me.
So here’s what I did…
I created new, completely separate websites, with their own URLs (I’ve been doing for years, but mostly as redirects to subdomains, rather than whole, individual domains), for my blog, my board, my services, my ezine, my articles and my membership website.
So, here they are…
- Articles and free book (flagship)
- Copywriters interviews
- Private members-only website
- My personal blog (this one here!)
- Discussion forum for copywriters
- My copywriting agency
- Library of free copywriting books
I’ll let you know how it goes. I’ve submitted the sites to the search engines already using SubmitFire.com (I’ve been using this service for 2 years now with great results), and in less than 2 weeks my PR is now at 6! So I’m a happy camper… For now.

Hmmm…. I like that idea. Makes sense — but wish I had been there to listen.

Apparently, it has helped. My main site is enjoying a PR 5. After I did this, all my sites were nil, of course. And within 3-4 days, all of them became either PR 6. (Granted, some have gone down to 4 or 5 since then. So it’s a wait and see.)

This idea will work well if you can put individual and meaningful content in each site and get direct links to each of them, from others.
If you just create a network of sites, all interlinking to each other, don’t expect to get a great boost.

Michael,
Do now host all your sites on the same host/account/IP address?

Not all of them. Most of them, yes. And John *did* mention that you can get penalized if it was all on the same host.

Hey Michel, Most definitley put each domain on a separate C class IP number, meaning:
aaa.bbb.CCC.ddd. If all your sites are with the same webhost, the 3rd set of numbers, or C class, are on the same, even tho the D class, or 4th set are different.
Its a drag, but for maximum effectiveness, spread em over different webhosts.

This is the same thing cloakers will do. Spread your content sites around different geographic locations. Buy your domains using hidden identity. Eventually someone will look to see if your popularity is all you or comming from unrelated peoples, it’s bound to happen.
