Drop Your Goals

Drop Your GoalsDrop Your Goals (And Manage Your Life) by Michel Fortin is a book written over a decade ago as the author was going through some tough times.

The result is a powerful look at how to stop setting goals and to start looking at your priorities and values instead — called “guides” rather than “goals.”

It’s a bit spiritual and metaphysical in nature, so please read with an open mind. However, the strategies it offers are real and practical.

I highly recommend that your read this book, which is brought to you free, and start using the G.O.A.L. method outlined in the book, with templates at the end.

Some chapters are separated into several pages for easier reading and navigation. At the bottom of each page, you will find on the left links to other pages. On the right are links to the next chapter.

Happy reading!

"If people are not first internally driven to reach their goals, then other goals as well as other priorities will go by the wayside. People who focus strictly on goals usually compromise other more important things, such as health, family, relationships, job security, and so on. They procrastinate that which is more important in their lives and place quantity of time above quality of life. They generally get stressed out, burned out, or left out as a result."

  • Michael,

This is great information, and contrary to what anyone says... It is deep psychological truth!

Just reading what the book is about and reading your quote from above talking about how we as humans are 'internally driven' to reach our goals got me thinking.

I have fallen victim to this 'goal' setting and have forfeited my health, my family, and my social life as a horrible consequence. I just did not realize it until now.

I have even been told from other Gurus to set your goals. Some even go as far as to say set your goals for the entire year.

While this might be a good way to center focus and work towards becoming successful online... I can see how I would loose myself doing so.

Instead, maybe setting some guidelines to follow that are flexible. Maybe some mini-goals that lead to a higher goal. Mini-goals that could be changed on a whim... Would that be ideal?

Well, I intend to find out.

I am going to read your report here, and see how it might relate to my life, and how I can utilize your ideals to help keep me focused while at the same time not forfeiting my quality of life.

P.S. I definitely have to tell my readers about this on my blog. I think I will make a post of it after I read your report ;)

    Thanks for sharing.
  • Michel, since I discovered your site a few days ago, I've been savouring its contents. It's impressive that other than an outstanding internet marketer/copywriter/businessman, you write so aptly on the subject of personal development and goal setting! Kudos to your selfless spirit for distributing this ebook. I'm yet to finish it but this is DEFINITELY great food for thought.

P.S. Yeah, I'll be here for more than just a while :)

    Cheers,

  • Michael,

That's a very fresh new look at how goal setting should be. Love the idea.

  • I don't understand this post. What is the purpose of it? I can't find a link to order or download the book. It says the book is free, bud I just can't find a way to get it.
  • @Michal - Can you not see the links under "Table of Contents for Drop Your Goals"? The links to each page are there. The book is posted online, on this blog, for free.
  • Wow! I didn't see it either until you (Michal) said exactly where it is in the previous post. Because "Last 5 Posts by Michel Fortin" comes before "Table of Contents for Drop Your Goals" it gets lost. I think also I expected to see a single link to a pdf of the book or something like that. Listing the entire table of contents is a nice way to present it but just not what my eye was used looking for. It was like as soon as I saw lots of links I stopped reading.
  • @Julie - Julie, the book is listed in the sidebar on the entire blog. This table of contents is actually a plugin called "in-series" that enables a table of contents, which would have otherwise NOT been there without it. So this helps, and the plugin also add "previous in series" and "next in series" at the bottom of every post. I hope this helps.

    @Michel Fortin -
    Michel...
He is trying to tell you that having to load 20 plus links one at a time is a pain in the butt...even if it is free. Better to load the whole thing at once, print it out, and read it on the can when my 63 year old prostate acts up at 3:00
