Author of The Famous Seven Dirty Words Dies

George CarlinI’m in Vegas right now attending three seminars back to back. I’ve been here for close to three weeks now, and we’re about to return home tomorrow. This explains why I haven’t blogged in a while.

While here, we’re looking at some properties. We want to buy a vacation home, especially during those cold winter months in Canada. (I think we found our home.)

But last week, my wife took me to see George Carlin at the Orleans Casino as my Father’s Day gift. It was a great show. George was funnier than ever. Still raw, caustic, and ranting at 71, he certainly hasn’t lost his touch.

Well, just a few moments ago I’ve learned that we, however, lost him.

When I learned about it, I was speechless. We just saw him a few days ago! I guess we caught one of his last shows if not his last. The funniest part of this? His show included jokes about dying and the afterlife.

Rest in peace, George Carlin. We’ll miss you.

  • If George knew his time was coming, he probably thought to go leaving people smiling and laughing.

RIP, George. And thanks for the laughs and smiles.
  • Sorta crazy.

Just last week I was watching his latest HBO special with my girlfriend and her mother.

Both of them have been dealing with some lame news finding out my girlfriends grandmother has cancer and a short time to live. Needless to say it's been very stressful.

However, while watching Carlin do routines about death it provided a weird moment of comic relief and sort of made you appreciate the time you did have here with yourself, and with loved ones.

Both of those girls needed a laugh when it came to this topic. And it was in a way very therapeutic.

So, it seems a bit weird after just having that experience to hear of this news.

    RIP Carlin.

    You were one funny dude.

  • Oh... :( Rest in peace mr. Carlin... We'll always remebmer you!!!
  • Thanks for this post. I'm a Christian and a life-long Carlin fan as well, and I did my own little tribute to the man, from a similar-but-different perspective. Thought you might be interested.

  • George is one of my personal heroes.

He never once was afraid to tell it how it is. Wish I had the chance to see him live.

I'll leave the last word to Mr. Carlin on matters of life and death.

  • Hi Michel,
George Carlin was in a class all his own. There isn't comic alive today that has not been influnced or inspired by the great body of work that Carlin created.

A couple days ago a very good friend of George Carlin was headlining at the "Comedy After Hours"
Comedy club in Las Vegas and I got a fantastic 5 minute interview with him about George Carlin...

His name is Jim Wiggins, known as "The Last Hippie
in America". George Carlin was Jims sons Godfather.
If you are a George Carlin fan, you'll love this
    video interview...

  • I always loved his style of "be responsible for yourself" humor. He'll be missed.
